O.T.E.A. OVERVIEW The Oregon Theatre Educators Association (OTEA) is Oregon’s professional organization for teachers of theatre or theatre-related disciplines at all levels, elementary through secondary, as well as post-secondary theatre education students. While the OTEA works year-round to provide support and advocacy for theatre education efforts in Oregon, the organization’s focus is its annual Fall Conference, typically held on the second Friday in October (designated by many districts as either an in-service or non-contract day). The annual Conference is planned by the OTEA President, and is normally a one-day session of workshops and resource sharing. An annual business meeting is held in conjunction with the Conference, normally on the Saturday morning following the Friday event. OTEA is operated under the umbrella of Oregon Thespians, but is a separate organizational entity. While many members of Oregon Thespians attend (and are therefore members of) OTEA, the two memberships are unrelated in structure. One way to
think of it is that Oregon Thespians is a student-centered
organization, designed to create and maintain opportunities for
Oregon’s students. The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA)
provides opportunities and resources for educators on the
national level. OTEA is the teacher-centered counterpart to |

Registration for the Fall OTEA
Conference is done online.
One-year membership in OTEA is
available at any time during the year in two different
membership levels: “K-12 Theatre Educators” and “Post-Secondary
Theatre Education Students”. Other organizations and individuals
wishing to support OTEA can become Advocates in two different
designation levels: “Individual” and “Organizations”. |
